When we had completed the initial development of our driver risk assessment system I spent months and months visiting potential clients and, on many occasions, would be asked if it had a particular facility, to which I always replied “yes” and then got my technical team to developed whatever I had just committed to.
I was thinking the other day that by listening to what clients wanted is how we have ended up with a great product. From time to time I still get asked if it can do something that it can’t do – Single Sign On was the latest. This is probably why we have been working with some our clients for over 15 years.
Software development has changed dramatically over the past few decades since my time at Sheffield Polytechnic working out how to minimise the number of binary code instructions required to perform a calculation! I leave the coding alone now.
Modern development now focuses on data security, agility and responding quickly to user feedback.
While the tools have changed, the goal remains the same: creating reliable, secure, and user-focused software that delivers real value.
